In February 2011, the Kentucky State Legislature passed Senate Bill 110 which allows optometrists, non-medical doctors, to perform certain eye surgical procedures after only a 32-hour course. The optometry argument was that rural areas were underserved by ophthalmology. Ironically, 85% of rural Kentuckians were against this legislation, including some optometrists! Sadly, 90% of our legislature voted "yes." Do you know the difference between an ophthalmologist and optometrist? Do you know how your elected officials voted? Ask them! We have the most skilled optometrists and ophthalmologists for your care.
